Radio stations in United States have evolved since their early twentieth century origins. In 1920 8MK started operations in Detroit; after it, thousands of private and public radio have operated in the United States. In 1925 the Association of College and University Broadcasting Stations was formed. In 1934 it was renamed as the National Association of Educational Broadcasters; between 1961 and 1970 it operated as the National Educational Radio Network, and in 1970 it was renamed as National Public Radio (NPR).[1] The lists of radio stations in the US are organized in a number of ways; some of them are the following:
